According to the latest Soap Opera Weekly, Grayson McCouch, who has played Dusty Donovan since 2003, is departing the role. The actor was asked to take a pay cut and refused. Look for him to make his exit in early '08. |

Boy if this trend continues of firing the vets or asking others to take pay cuts pretty soon all daytime is going to filled with are newbies or no talent models who can't find a job any where else. McCouch was not my favorite Dusty but at least he was familiar and a familiar character. Glad McCouch refused to take their pay cut. When the writers and producers start taking pay cuts too I might get behind actors taking them, but it is not fair the actors are the only ones expected by TPTB and the fans to take the fall for keeping the shows on the air. Grayson has been faithful to the show for several years now. He built up his seniority and deserved the pay he was promised. |

Not a ATWT viewer anymore, but when I was I liked Grayson McCouch as Dusty and thought he was a great re-cast. I've heard elsewhere that ATWT plans to re-cast. It's a shame Brian Bloom doesn't return. |

I agree he was a badddddd recast. Did it seem, like to me, that they made Dusty younger by casting McCouch? I seriously thought McCouch was playing Oakdale's version of Sonny Corinthos and Jason Morgan all together. He didn't seem like the type of actor to play Dusty Donovan. Farewell to GANGSTA Dusty. |

Grayson is actually almost 2 years older than Brian Bloom. Bloom was always the youngest of Jon, Martha and him when they were were in the triangle together. Grayson is older than Martha. I think he is the same age as Jon. |

I didn't like him at first because I was so tuned in to the way Brian Bloom played him. That, plus whenever Hogan Sheffer or Jean Passanante brings back a former character it is usually like a new character because they change them so much. That being said,Grayson had grown on me and I began to like him. I will miss him. I totally agree with this statement that Steve said:
and this one....

Oh, lord. GM was hardly a vet or a senior player. He hasn't even been on ATWT for five whole years. Hell, I barely consider Kelley Menighan Hensley a vet, so I sure as hell don't think of Grayson that way. And while I agree that actors shouldn't be the only ones that have to take pay cuts, Grayson could have taken one for the team like most other soap actors do these days, but he chose not to. Simple as that. |

He is still at this point a familiar face. If they recast and I am sure they will it will be another new face that we have to get used too. I am tired of having to get used to new faces. And sorry but I don't hold anything against him for not being willing to "take one for the team" All of the fans who expect these actors to take one for the team so their favorite shows can stay on the air need to ask themselves - What if my boss told me that the company needed me to take a pay cut, would I do it? Esp. when my boss isn't doing it. And that is what is happening. The bosses of these shows aren't taking pay cuts but yet they expect the actors to take pay cuts. And then the fans get mad at the stars that refuse to do it. Well sorry I don't. I get more mad at the fans who expect it of them. You better be damn sure that Proctor & Gamble hasn't cut the pay of their big management, and you don't hear any of the producers and execs being asked to take pay cuts. Well it is the same as if you were working and your boss wanted you to take one for the team so that he could keep his money but pay you less. Fans aren't willing to give up anything but they expect the actors to give it up so their show can stay on. |

This sucks! When Dusty first came on he was HOT, the manly man that just ozzed sex appeal, while he's still a manly man and does ozze sex appeal he's sort of lost that when he was obsessing over a baby named Johnny. That said, I hate this because now we're getting back to Dusty and Lily, which is good history of the show and if Dusty leaves it will just mean another recast that we have to get used to or no story for Lily!! I wish he would stay because finally after a year-half post Jennifer's death I'm ready to watch a story with Dusty front and center again! |

Oh, baloney...look, if McCouch didn't want to re-sign, that's his business. I don't see it as some huge loss, and frankly McCouch was lucky the Lusty pairing took off and kept Dusty relevant after Rose's death. Ever since the potential Dusty/Lily/Holden/Molly quad was scrapped in '04, Dusty's floundered from story to story without any purpose in Oakdale. But I, as a FAN, have taken more than one "for the team" of daytime. I now regularly sit through recycled CRAP stories, watching interchangeable newbies learn to act on the job, while experimental camera techniques make the show look like it's filmed in a House of Horrors. I grit my teeth through logic and continuity errors that would make a kindergarten play look like Shakespeare. All in the name of "dramatic license" when some idiot writer (who hasn't a clue about the rich and wonderful history of the show other than what's on Wikipedia) can't come up with an original thought in her silly little head. So I refuse to feel sorry for actors who have a choice to not "take one for the team"...especially ones who have always had one eye on pilot season (or Broadway or Hollywood), hoping to land something bigger and better than daytime. I'll reserve my sympathies for people fired for whatever reason (age, lack of story, not having the "right look") who WANT to be there. The true bigwigs at P&G might not be taking pay cuts, but I think you're wrong in assuming the producers and exec's at the shows haven't been asked to make concessions. Sometimes a "pay cut" isn't a pay cut, but the absence of a raise. |

There is a difference in giving up those things for daytime than it is to give up your livelihood. What I meant is that we expect them to give up money so that our show can stay on but we would not be willing to give up the same. It is easy for us to sit back and judge them but we don't pay their bills. We don't pay their rent and their expenses. And sure everyone could live cheaper than they do but that is not our right to judge that. I am sure that someone else could look at what we spend and judge that we could give things up too. But that is not their right to do so. Until it costs us our livelihood and more than just things we enjoy I don't think we can judge an actor who makes the decision that they can't afford to take a pay cut. Like I said until it is stated in a magazine somewhere that the pay cuts are across the board then I will not judge an actor who is not willing to take one. And until fans are willing to give up something equal to that and not just better stories etc which do not calculate to someone's livelihood then I will not agree that they can either. And as far as your opinion on this I can say oh baloney too. Because I know that if they asked Maura to take a pay cut and she refused this would be a whole different story. |

If Grayson had wanted to stay, he would have found a way to make it work. I refuse to get upset about an actor choosing to leave, when other people weren't given the option of taking a pay cut and laid off from the crew. (per Cady's latest blog...) And honestly...there are days I WISH Maura had the balls to leave. Thank you very much. |

I am not upset about Grayson leaving, but at the same time I still stand by my point that it is not fair for anyone to expect someone to take pay cuts when not everyone is taking them and fans would not want to take them either when their own bosses were not taking them. I think it is wrong of us to judge anyone when we wouldn't want to take a pay cut in the same situation either. Because I will tell you if I knew that my boss was not taking a pay cut but he expected me to take one just so that I could keep my job - I would tell him no way. It is the same principle that the writers are striking for now. The powers that be expect to be able to make money off putting the shows and all on the Internet and not pay the writers and all for it. They keep on lining their pockets off the work of others. It's not fair and it is time that the actors and others said no. |
